Bulgaria to screen Iranian ‘Breath’

Iranian movie ‘Breath’ (Nafas) has been scheduled to go on screen at the 9th edition of the Sofia MENAR Film Festival in Bulgaria.

The festival’s website recently announced that the flick will go on screen in three sessions, including in the Cinema House on January 14, in the Cultural Center on January 22, and in the Euro Cinema on January 25.

Directed by Narges Abyar, the story of the film begins in the late 1970s in Valadabad, a poor suburb of Karaj, where Bahar, Nader, Kamal and Maryam, live with numerous colorful dreams of their childhood along with their father and granny, but their mother has died a few years ago.

Their father, who suffers from asthma, works for a shoemaking company. In her dreams, Bahar, who narrates the story of the film, wishes to treat him when she becomes a doctor.

Iranian actors and actresses Gelare Abbasi, Mehran Ahmadi, Jamshid Hashempour, and Shabnam Moqaddami star in the 118-minute ‘Breath’.

The event has also dedicated a section to pay tribute to late acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami.

Sofia MENAR Film Festival makes Bulgarian audiences familiar with the culture and traditions of the Islamic world, the website of the festival wrote.

The program of Sofia MENAR Film Festival presents the best of Middle East and North Africa cinema productions, including feature films, documentaries and short projects.

The event has launched on Thursday and will continue until January 29.
